These aircraft must be appreciated, i.e. to have the relatively short take-off and landing capacity on relatively short tar strips suitable for turboprops, while being less limited by Weight, Altitude and Temperature limits than speedier jets. The point is having both versatility and safety at better speeds than most turboprops and not having to maintain a propeller governor system, reduction gearbox, rudder boost system, fuel topping governor, constant speed units, etc. The benefit to get into shorter runways than most jets comes at a slight forfeiture in speed compared to speedier jets. However, at 335 knots / 620 km/h at 28000 feet the Citation is no slouch either and can be halfway home while a competitor jet has to wait for temperatures to subside. The slow Vref speeds render the both the Eagle Wing and the Long Wing version even more forgiving and capably of short landings and take-offs than their standard-wing stable-mates. The simplicity of the design of both the engine and high-bypass turbofan engines adds to these aircraft being relatively trouble-free, as ideal entry level jets.
